CFD calculations with openFoam

Openfoam is a great package for computational fluid dynamics (cfd). Here are some examples of simulations of fluid flow with multiphase, heat exchange and particles.

Sand particles simulated with DPMFoam. They are initially dropped with no air flow. Then an air flow is applied and along with impactor seeds. Turbulence is treated with LES. Periodic boundary conditions are applied in both horizontal directions.

Duct with incoming air at 5 m/s from left to right, and 3 water drops injectors, also injecting at 5 m/s. Performed with MPPICFoam for the particle treatment, and LES for the fluid turbulence.

Two phase laminar simulation of water in a tank (red), injected by a couple of opposed tangential injectors at 1m/s near the bottom, and air on the top (blue). The streamlines color is the water velocity magnitude.

OpenFoam heatedDuct tutorial of multi-region conjugated heat exchange. The upper duct has 4cm x 4cm of inner section, and 15 cm length, and is made of aluminum. In the lower part there is a heater of 525W. There is a flow of 1 mm/s of air in the duct. Initial temperature and incoming air temperature is 300 K. The fluid flow calculation is laminar.
